It's so good to be back

We're back at the Sands for the first time in four years.  Despite have 7 rental condos here, our lives have been so insanely busy for the last 4 years that we just haven't managed to get down here.  It's so nice to be back.  I don't intend to let it go this long ever again.

Not surprisingly, the same great atmosphere that brought us here years ago is still alive and well, and there have been many improvements to boot!  Tonight we enjoyed the weekly Sands fireworks display right from our balcony.  It was great!

I also love that they have a centrally located laundry facility on the ground floor now.  And you may not have known this - if you show your parking card at any of the on-site restaurants you'll save 10%.  Love it!

I love that there is such a diverse group of vacationers here too.  Young, people, families, and seniors all enjoying the beach in their own way.

Can't wait to come again!

New life for Sands Ocean Club by Owner blog

After reflecting on the fact that this blog has pretty much been static for quite some time, I hope to give it some new life.  We'd like to turn it into a Sands Ocean Club fan site, where you can post stories, pictures, videos, etc of your trip to the Sands in Myrtle Beach.  For now I'm keeping it moderated to ensure appropriateness of posts and to limit spam.

So go ahead, give it a try.  Tell us about your last trip to the Sands and what you enjoyed about it the most.  Post a picture or a video, then come back as often as you like to get a taste of the Sands when you can't actually be here yourself!

There's been a change

After 4 successful seasons, we decided before Spring that we wanted to exit the rental management business. We have given the management of the rentals back to the resort. We hope to actually sell all but one of the units. They have been a great investment and we have no regrets, but it's time to move on to other things. We've found that owning and managing the properties slowly took over much of our time and thoughts - so gradually that we didn't realize it was happenning. So now we're choosing to allocate our time more to our kids and our church and to friends in general, especially while the kids are young. Someday we may be back in this or some other exciting business, but for now we're focusing on debt reduction.

Sands Ocean Club Resort continues to improve

Hello all. It has been nearly 6 months since my last post - I'm happy to report that we're having another fine rental season at the Sands. Our revenues are down just a bit this year, as we continue to offer significant discounts over the competition, even while the market decline has caused the whole market to be down from last year.

The Sands is continuing to improve itself, this year adding another deck and a full service spa.

My understanding is that parking space will be increased in the fall.
